LEXINGTON, SC– Today, American Leadership Academy (ALA) Lexington hosted a construction site visit to preview what is soon to be the largest brick-and-mortar school in South Carolina history. Attendees included South Carolina State Treasurer Curtis Loftis, leadership from the Charter Institute at Erskine (the Institute), and leadership from the school.
The property, which will open to students in Fall 2023, will reach an enrollment of almost 2,000 students at full matriculation. However, after just three weeks of open enrollment, the school is almost fully enrolled.
Treasurer Loftis expressed his excitement about the school and the opportunity it presents for local families to practice their right to school choice.
“Charter schools are the future, and this level of construction and management is just incredible,” said Loftis.
Cameron Runyan, Superintendent of the Charter Institute at Erskine, points to the values of ALA as a reason for the high demand.
“I think the moral and wholesome environment is what is drawing people to this school,” Runyan says. “They want an education for their children that values this country, recognizes the greatness of the United States of America, believes in our Western traditions, and reinforces their family values and beliefs.”
The school’s director, Dr. Michael Gordon-Smith, has been with ALA for several years in other states and credits the school’s track record of excellence to this solid foundation of beliefs.
“As an institution, we know exactly who we are and the product that we provide really works,” Dr. Gordon-Smith says. “We’re excited to give school choice to our Lexington families and to give them the opportunity to have their kids be a part of this exceptional institution.”
American Leadership Academy Lexington is a public charter school that will serve grades K-12. Located off of I-20, Exit 55B, the ALA model raises students to be strong, educated, and confident leaders. Enrollment is now open until January 15 for the 2023-24 school year. ALA Lexington is authorized through the Charter Institute at Erskine.
